Patrick Snyder

Pat Snyder was a 1993 graduate of Tussey Mountain High School, where he was four-year starter in basketball under coach Dave Bailey. A consummate point guard, he had the ability and tenacity to score, defend, assist, and run the offense at a high level for the system that coach Bailey preferred.
Snyder broke the Bedford County record of 1,833 points that was held by 1954 Hyndman graduate Bruce May. He later became Bedford County first 2,000-point scorer. He was the all-time leading scorer until he was passed by Northern Bedford’s Joe Nastasi and then by A.J. Nastasi. Snyder finished his career with 2,321 points.
The Titans compiled a 93-18 record during his career as the Tussey Mountain point guard and playmaker.
As a sophomore, he helped the Titans win the Bedford County League and Sideling Hill League titles. He was a Bedford County League First-Team All-Star and was an Altoona Mirror Third-Team selection.
In his junior season, he was the MVP of the Huntingdon Lions Shootout Tournament, and he helped the Titans win the Bedford County League title. He was a First-Team selection for the Bedford County League and Altoona Mirror All-Star Teams, and he earned a second-team Associated Press All-State selection.
The Titans won the District 5-AA, Bedford County League, and Sideling Hill League titles in Snyder’s senior year. The Titans went 26-2 and advanced to the PIAA quarterfinals, where they lost to Sto-Rox. He was again selected as a second-team member of the Associated Press All-State team. He was also named the MVP of the Bedford County League and the Altoona Mirror All-Star team.
The following season, Snyder went to Shippensburg University on a basketball scholarship. Just 10 games into his freshman season, he suffered a torn ACL in his knee and it deeply affected his career with the Raiders. He had surgery the following year, which limited his playing time through his time at Shippensburg. While his forte was points and assists in high school, he concentrated more on playing defense at the college level. He received his degree in psychology from Shippensburg in 1997.
Snyder is a veteran of 19 years as a trooper with Pennsylvania State Police and is stationed at Troop G Headquarters in Hollidaysburg. He was born on September 29, 1974, in Altoona and is the son of Jim and Ann (Dickson) Snyder of Saxton. His father was a teacher and coach in the Tussey Mountain School District. Pat’s younger sister, Erin, was a member of two Tussey Mountain girls basketball teams that won District 5 titles. She also coached two undefeated junior high teams.
Snyder is married to the former Betsy Maslanik, who was also a Tussey Mountain graduate and a gymnast in high school. They are the parents of two sons. Alex is 12 years old, while Matthew Parks is Pat’s 18-year-ld stepson.
