Fred Glasgow  

Fred Glasgow is one of the most heralded football players in the  history of Bedford County.

As the featured running back on the Northern Bedford County High  School football team, he set three state records and helped the Black Panthers to the Western Conference title in 1973. The Black Panthers were 32-5-1 in his years.
   
He broke the state record for most yards in a single game with 414 yards in a game against Shade High School in his senior year. He went on to set the single season rushing record that year by running for 2,061 yards in 1973.

Glasgow also broke the state record career rushing yards with 4, 618 yards rushing in his playing career from 1970-1973.

Glasgow was also a three-time Inter County Conference and Bedford County All-Star.

Fred was also honored as an honorable mention on the Pennsylvania High School Football All·Century Team.

While he was best known as a football player, Glasgow excelled at other sports as well. He was a District 5  wrestling champion and held the NBC record in both the shot put and 100-meter dash.

He was recruited by Syracuse University to play football and received a full scholarship for the Orangemen. 

Glasgow played football for one year at Syracuse. However, he decided to transfer to a school a little closer to home and ended up at Shippensburg University.

As a Raider, he set the school records for career rushing with 2,282 yards and career touchdowns with 30. He was a two-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference First Team Running Back and was also a two-time AP College Division All-American.
He was inducted into the Shippensburg University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1989.

After graduating from Shippensburg, he coached the Raiders for one year before joining the U.S. Navy.

Fred went through basic flight training in Pensacola, Fla., and was eventually stationed in San Diego.  In November of 1985, he attended Top Gun school and has been a Top Gun pilot.

"There is a lot that I have accomplished in my life," Glasgow said in an interview. "The one accomplishment that I am most proud of was the game against Shade that I rushed for 414 yards and the people I was associated with at that time."

Fred and his wife Nancy reside in Mooretown, N.J . with their six children. He currently works with SPAWAR (Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command
