Lindsay Baker
Lindsay Baker is one of the most prolific point producers in our era
of girls’ basketball.
The 1997 graduate of Tussey Mountain High School was a
dynamic basketball player and a standout in track.
In addition to being inducted into the 2023 class of the Bedford
County Sports Hall of Fame, she was named to the Huntingdon County Sports Hall of Fame in 2010.
Baker was a 4-year starter for the Lady Titans, who were coached
by Rodney Brumbaugh. In those 4 years, she scored 2,142 points and helped the Lady Titans to a 76-25 record including District 5-AA titles in both 1995 and 1996 and had a career average of 21.2 points per game.
She led her team in scoring in each of her 4 seasons. After posting
339 points as a freshman guard, she scored 497 as a sophomore, 656 as a junior, and 650 as a senior. Baker averaged 27.1 points a game her senior season.
She was a Sideling Hill League and Bedford County League All-
Star, as well as twice being named District 5 Player of the Year. Baker was also named the Western Pennsylvania Class AA Player of the Year as a junior.
Baker was named as a fourth-team all-state selection and a sixth-team selection as a senior. The Lady Titan was selected to play in the annual Eat’n Park Girls High School Roundball Classic after her senior season.
In addition to her basketball career at Tussey Mountain, Baker also lettered as a member of the Tussey Mountain girls’ track and field team. As a senior, she won the 800, 1600, and 3200 at the Bedford County Championship Meet and was named the Outstanding Runner for her efforts. She also won the 1600 and 3200 at the District 5 Championships, qualifying for the state championship meet in both events. Baker was more than just a great athlete, whose game elevated that of her teammates. She was also an outstanding student in the classroom and was the salutatorian for her graduating class.
Baker drew interest from Division I schools such as St. Francis and Buffalo, but she opted to continue her athletic and academic career at the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown. She had attended summer camps there since the seventh grade. She liked that it was a good fit for her and would give her a chance to contribute right away under UPJ head coach Jodi Gaul.
At UPJ, she was a 2-year letterwinner and was captain her senior year, scoring 973 points in her career. She averaged 21 points a game in her senior season, which was ranked 12th in the country for Division II. She led Division II with a 3-point field goal percentage of 48% (68 of 142) and ranked eighth in free throw percentage at 86.8% (99-114).
Baker also ran for the cross country, as well as the track and field team at UPJ.
After her outstanding senior season at UPJ, she was earned accolades including Honorable Mention Division II Bulletin All-American and Second-Team Daktronics All-American.
At UPJ, she was on the dean’s list all 4 years as a biology major with minors in chemistry and geology.
Baker graduated summa cum laude with a 3.83 grade point average. She was named a 2002 Verizon Division II Academic All-American and earned the Lowell Shaffer Student Athlete Award. Baker was awarded a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, which she used to earn a doctorate in kinesiology/exercise physiology from Penn State in 2008. The scholarship enabled Baker to focus on her lifelong interest of science, sports, and exercise.
The Tussey Mountain graduate has been employed by Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI) in Barrington, Illinois, as a senior research scientist involved in the research of electrolyte balance for athletes. She now works in Valhalla, New York, where she is the Director of Research for GSSI.
Lindsay is a daughter of Lance and Debbie Baker of Saxton. She is married to Shannon Dolt, a 1990 graduate of Tussey Mountain, and has 3 children: Autumn, Elias, and Laurel.
