Robert L. Gribble ranks as one of the finest all-around athletes to come out of Saxton-Liberty High School.

A 1952 graduate, he was a three-sport standout at Saxton-
Liberty from 1949-52, lettering in football, basketball, and baseball.

He was a two-year letterman in football, and he completed 58% of his passes, threw for 848 yards and 10 touchdowns,
and averaged 10.7 yards per completion.

Gribble was an All-Juniata Valley League selection in basketball and was the Most Valuable Player for the 1951-52
season as he was the second-leading scorer in the circuit.

He lettered three years as a second baseman and shortstop for the Saxton-Liberty baseball team.

In college, he was a freshman starter in football at George Washington College in 1952 before he entered the service. Gribble played running back, defensive safety, and back-up quarterback for the 1955 24th Division military team in Korea that went 7-0-1 and won the Far East Command 8th Army Championship.

Gribble returned to college at Shippensburg State and lettered in football in 1958 and 1959 as a safety and quarterback. He was named Shippensburg’s Outstanding Back following his junior season, and he was the captain for his senior season.

He was also a punter for each of the teams for which he played.

Gribble was an assistant football coach at Big Spring High School from 1960-62 and helped coach basketball there in 1960 and 1961.

He was inducted into the Huntingdon County Sports Hall of Fame in 2002.

He passed away in 2018 at the age of 84.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Gribble.

Bob is survived by his wife, Linda L. Gribble, of New Port Richey, Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Toni Gayle and Dennis Hawthorn, of St. Augustine, Florida; daughter and significant other,
Connie Ann Gribble and Steve Webb, of Tavernier, Florida; daughter, Lisa Margaret Barcomb of Clinton, Utah; son, Michael Glen, of Clinton, Utah; son and daughter-in-law, Mark Robert and Janet, of Rockville, Maryland; and 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, whom he dearly loved.
