Irwin Brambley
Irwin Brambley had a strong scholastic athletic career and continued with a spectacular collegiate career that included a team national championship and an individual national runner-up finish.

He is a 1993 graduate of Bedford High School, where he was a 3-sport athlete.
Brambley was a 3-year starter at quarterback for the Bisons, helping Bedford to District 5-2A titles in 1991 and 1992. The 1992 football team was the first Bedford team to win a PIAA playoff game before falling to Fairview in the state quarterfinals, 23-18.
Brambley was a left-handed pitcher for the Bisons’ baseball team.

His prowess on the wrestling mat was where he made his mark. Brambley was a 3-time District 5-2A Champion and also placed third his freshman year. He also was a 2-time Southwest Regional Champion. He lost his first match at states in 1993, but he rallied back to capture third place. He had a 109-25-1 record in his high school career.

Brambley took his talents to the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, where he continued his wrestling career.

As a Mountain Lion, he accumulated a 107-43 record and placed in the Division II championships 3 times. He was eighth in 1996, second in 1997, and seventh in 1998.

The Mountain Lions won their first national championship in 1996, and that team was inducted into the UPJ Athletics Hall of Fame.
Brambley is now helping coach pole vault at Laurel Highlands High School.
