At-Large
Jake Hoover
Jake Hoover’s journey with community involvement started at an early age.
His father, Fred Hoover, served as chief of the Bedford Fire Department and Bedford County Sheriff, all while being manager of the Bedford Fairgrounds, which included various positions with the Great Bedford Fair and Bedford Fairgrounds Speedway. Jake watched his father serving to the best ability, an attribute which has carried with him through his entire life.
Jake was thrust into the position of fair manager after his father’s unexpected passing in 1982. From negotiating contracts with midway carnival owners and auto racing promoters, to serving as harness racing secretary, to overseeing the fair and facility in various capacities for over 40 years, he has at times kept the fairgrounds moving forward single handily.
His professional career as manager of the Bedford Township Municipal Water and Sewage Authority came from his early years in the Hoover family septic tank pumping business. He has also served as board member of the Bedford County Chamber of Commerce and VP of the Southern Pennsylvania Historical Auto Racing Commission.
A graduate of Bedford High School in 1969 and lifetime Bedford resident, his love for his
hometown is unequaled and appreciates all it has given him.
