Craig Enyeart

Craig Enyeart is considered by many sports fans in the area as one of the best all-around athletes to come out of Bedford County. He is known mostly for his football, but he also excelled in basketball and track and field for the Tussey Mountain Titans as a member of the Class of 1973.

For a big man, the 6-4, 220-pounder was very fast, which attracted the attention of many scouts and college coaches who came to watch him play football in Saxton.

In track and field, he once ran a 9.9 second 100-yard dash and a 21.8 220-yard dash. The 9.9 100-yard dash is still tied for a Bedford County record 34 years on and is still the Tussey Mountain record. His 21.8 220-yard time stood as a school ecord until it was broken in 1990. In the 1973

District V meet, Craig was a triple winner for the day (100, 220 and high jump). He participated in two PIAA State Track Meets and came home with three medals (fifth in the 100 in 1972, fourth in the 100 and fifth in the 220).

In the sport of basketball, Craig led the area in scoring as a sophomore (19.4 points per game) and came in a close second as a senior at 20.85 ppg, which was only one tenth of a point behind the leader that season. He finished his high school career with 1,201 points. He was voted an all-star all three years by several of the area newspapers.

In football, Craig played quarterback, wide receiver, running back, and safety. He led Bedford County in scoring and receiving his senior year. As a junior, he mostly played quarterback and completed 45 passes for 566 yards, while rushing for 310 yards.

As a senior, he played mostly running back and rushed for 683 yards on 129 attempts, caught 18 receptions for 381 yards, and scored 18 touchdowns.

He was voted to the First Team in the Inter-County Conference All-Star as a quarterback and defensive safety. He was also voted as Defensive Player of the Year in the Mid-Penn Conference in 1972.

He received 35 letters of intent from North Carolina State, West Virginia, Iowa State, and Penn  State. Ultimately, he picked Penn State and earned a four-year scholarship to play tight end for the Nittany Lions.

He played on the Penn State squad mostly as a back-up tight end, earning a varsity letter, and is still a member of the Penn State Football Alumni Letterman s Club. During his college years, Penn State participated in four bowl games (Orange, Cotton, Sugar, and Gator Bowls).

After college, Craig and his wife Theresa relocated to the Pittsburgh area, where Craig has been employed in the oil industry as a merchandise marketing manager for Sunoco. Craig and Theresa have three children (Michael-26, Ashley-24, and Jonathon-19). Craig continues to be involved in football as the offensive coordinator of the St. Louise seventh and eighth grade football team in Upper St. Clair  Township in the Pittsburgh area. He has been involved in coaching football for 15 years.
