Jeff Husick

Nearly a half century after Tussey Mountain introduced the wrestling program in the 1964-65 season and 27 years following his graduation in 1984, Jeff Husick remains the “gold standard” for the Titans. His achievements are unparalleled on the mountain, and he has carried that success on to the college level and then into coaching.

   Jeff compiled a brilliant 108-13-1 career record at Tussey Mountain under coaches Frank Pannebaker (freshman year), and Jan Clark (a three-time state champion at neighboring Northern Bedford). Jeff, a three-time District 5 Class AA champion, reached the regional finals three times, winning one title.

   At the state level, Jeff steadily climbed the placement ladder. He placed fourth in 1982, placed third in 1983, and wrestled in the state championship match in 1984, finishing second. Jeff went 20-7 as a freshman 98-pounder;
27-4-1 at both 105 and 98 as a sophomore when he placed fourth in the state. He was 32-1 as a junior where his only loss came on a criteria decision to Northern Lehigh’s Jim Milot after a 5-5 regulation draw and 2-2 overtime in the PIAA state tourney second round in the 105 pound weight class. As a senior, he went 39-2 at 112 when he was edged 4-3 by Wilson’s Troy Handlovic in the PIAA championship bout.

   During the off-season, Jeff was a three-time member of the Pennsylvania Freestyle Team during the summers of 1982-84. He was sixth at Junior Nationals in 1982 and fifth in the National Espoir Tournament in 1985. Also, in the summer of 1985, he placed third in the prestigious Junior World Trials at the Colorado Olympic Training Center.

   Jeff wrestled for Lock Haven University from 1984-89 and racked up more than 100 career wins for the Bald Eagles. He was a four-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference placewinner and won a championship in 1987. He also captured a Navy Tournament title in 1988 and placed third at the Midlands Championships in 1988, defeating 1988 Olympian and Penn State legend Ken Chertow along the way.

   Jeff was ranked among the NCAA top 10 at his weight class for three consecutive years (1987-89) and was a three-time NCAA qualifier during the same period. In 1989, he received the Outstanding Athlete Award at LHU. That same year, he also received the prestigious and coveted Golden Whistle Award, which is given to the most promising Health and Physical Education student of the graduating class, voted on by the LHU professors.

   Academically, he was a member of the Delta Psi Kappa honorary fraternity (1988-89), was a dean’s list student, and named to the Who’s Who Among American High School Students each year from 1982-84.

   While at Lock Haven, Jeff was co-captain of the Bald Eagle wrestling team, which was ranked sixth nationally in NCAA Division I during the 1988-89 season.

   In recognition for his achievements in athletics and academics, Lock Haven University inducted Jeff into its Hall of Fame in February, 2002.

   His other mat credentials include seven years as a wrestling camp clinician at Lock Haven University during the summers of 1984-90 and two years as a clinician at the University of Wisconsin wrestling camp in the summers of 1990-91. He also served as East Stroudsburg University Wrestling Camp coordinator and director in 1999-2000.

   Jeff has served three different stints as an assistant wrestling coach at East Stroudsburg University (1991-92, 1994-95, and 1999-2007) and one at Wilkes University (1994). He was an assistant soccer coach and football coach at Pocono Mountain Junior High School from 1989-93 and assistant varsity wrestling coach at that school from 1989-91.

   Jeff received his Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education from Lock Haven University in 1989 with a 3.2 grade point average of a scale of 4.0. He earned his Pennsylvania Permanent/Level II Health and Physical Education certificate in 1998 and took graduate courses at East Stroudsburg University from 1991-2004 with a near-perfect grade point average of 3.9. He earned his master’s equivalency certificate, plus 60 additional graduate credits.

   He was a Health and Physical Education teacher at Pocono Mountain Junior High, Intermediate School, and High School in Swiftwater from 1989-00 and has since taught the same courses at Stroudsburg High School in Stroudsburg.

   He was a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) wrestling referee from 1993-95 and also has his CPR Instructor Certification.

   Among Jeff's interests are coaching, exercising, weightlifting, golfing, bicycling, and traveling.

   Jeff is the oldest of four sons born to John and Nancy (Banco) Husick of Saxton, Pennsylvania. Between Jeff and his brothers (John, Scott, and Shawn), they have earned seven state wrestling medals. Jeff and his wife Pamela (Taylor) reside in Pocono Pines, Pennsylvania.
