Robin Imler Over

Robin (Imler) Over was a three-sport athlete who excelled at all three sports at Northern Bedford County High School and also performed well at two of them in college.

She is known in these parts as the trailblazer in girls’ athletics as she was the first female to reach 1,000 points in her career, and the 1980 graduate finished her career with 1,048 points.

Not only did she perform well individually, her teams won as well. In her junior year of 1978-79, she and her teammates went 24-1 with Sideling Hill League, Bedford County League, and District 5 titles. The only loss in the season was to the eventual state champion in overtime.

Her senior year, the Lady Black Panthers went 24-4 and won Sideling Hill League, Bedford County League, and District 5 titles.

She led the county in points scored her junior and senior years, and was a Bedford County First-Team All-Star both seasons. She averaged 14.7 points per game her junior season and 17.8 points her senior year.

She was a three-year letterwinner in volleyball and a Bedford County All-Star her senior year, which was the first year for the volleyball all-stars.

She also performed well on the softball diamond, where she was a three-time first-team Bedford County All-Star. She led the county with a .724 batting average her junior year and hit .650 her senior year.

After her scholastic career was over, she continued with two sports at the Penn State - Altoona Campus. She played volleyball her freshman year, and she helped the team to a 15-3 record including championships in the Skyline Conference, PSU Commonwealth Conference, and the Community College State Championship.

She made the PSU All-Conference volleyball team.

One sport wasn’t enough, so she added basketball and was a two-year starter there. She broke the school’s scoring and rebounding records her freshman year (13.36 rebounds per game and 17.72 points per game), and then she broke her own rebounding record with 295 rebounds and 17.5 points per game.

On top of earning PSU All-Conference and Skyline Conference All-Conference teams both her junior and senior years, she helped her team to records of 16-7 and 17-6 including a Skyline Athletic Conference championship in 1981 and a second-place finish in the PSU Commonwealth Campus Athletic Conference.

She went on to help coach at Northern Bedford, helping at the varsity and junior high level in basketball as well as being an assistant on the NBC softball team that won District 5 championships in 2001, 2002, 2006, 2007 and 2008.

She is married to Joe Over, and their daughter Brooke is the starting pitcher for Shenandoah University, and their son Blake is going to be a sophomore in high school, having already made the varsity baseball and track and field teams.
