Everett Girls Track & Field 1990
Class of 2022
The Everett Girls Track & Field squad turned a corner in the spring of 1989 with a fine 7-2 record and hopes were high for improving upon that when March of 1990 rolled around and Coaches Jeff Batzel and Sue Conner started to put their squad through workouts.
The season started with some huge non-league wins in which the Warrior girls scored over 100 points in 5 outings.  In County league action Everett handled BCL runnerup NBC with ease (93-48) and Tussey (92-48), Bedford (99-42) and Chestnut Ridge (83-57). In a year where the weather played havoc with the regular season schedule, meets with Central, McConnellsburg, and Southern Fulton were cancelled.
The Everett squad also roared to the title at the Tri-State Invitational Meet in Hancock, Md. In late April.  The Lady Warriors easily outdistanced all opponents and had 5 champions in that meet.  Sophomore Sprinter Ginger Hite led the way with 3 Gold medals.
The post-season got off to a good start with a win in the Bedford County League Meet held at Ridge.  NBC battled to the final two events before Everett pulled away and claimed the title. Janine Ziviello (100 Hurdles), Yvette Brallier (Javelin), Chris Leader (3200), Wendy Clark (300 Hurdles) and both the 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 Relay teams claimed titles.
The 4 x 400 relay team that featured Beth Clark, Ginger Hite, Stacey Weaver and Wendy Clark most of the season with alternate Andrea Smith also running frequently and the 4 x 800 relay squad of Amy Fetters, Chris Leader, Stacey Weaver and Beth Clark were both undefeated for the entire regular season and County Championship meet.
The District 5 title culminated the Warriors perfect season a week later.  The Warriors won 5 of the 18 events, finished second in two more and had 5 key third place finishes in running up 123 points and an easy victory.  Wendy Clark won the 100 and 300 Hurdles and finished second with a state qualifying jump in the Triple Jump.  Ginger Hite captured the 200 meter gold while Christine Leader took the 3200 meter run title. The 4 x 800 relay team remained unbeaten with a district win. Senior Yvette Brallier scored crucial points with a second in the Javelin and third places in both the High Jump and Long Jump.  Hurdlers Janine Ziviello (100 H) and Andrea Smith (300H) both took bronze medals as did the 4 x 100 sprint relay team of Ziviello, Smith, Angie Wallace and Tracie Clingerman.  Perhaps the only disappointment of the day was the top seeded 4 x 400 meter relay team seeing their state medal aspirations fall when they suffered an untimely injury that cost them another gold.

Although there would be no state medals for the Warriors that year, Wendy Clark would capture a state bronze medal a year later with a 37-5 ¾” jump at the state meet.  That effort still stands as the second best jump in District 5 history at the state meet.  She would become a national qualifier in that event after graduation when competing for Shippensburg University.
The 4 x 400 relay team made up for their disappointment a year later with an astounding 4:07.63 bronze medal performance in the state finals.  The Warriors girls were the top public school team in the state.  Krista Jay, a Freshman, replaced departed senior Beth Clark on that team that included ’90 holdovers Ginger Hite, Stacey Weaver, and Wendy Clark.
The Warrior girls broke 7 school records in 1990. Wendy Clark finished the year with individual records in the Triple Jump, and both 100 and 300 Hurdles. Ginger Hite set a school 400 meter record and Chris Leader broke the 3200 meter run record. Hite and Clark teamed with Stacey Weaver and Beth Clark to set a new 4 x 400 meter relay record while Leader, Weaver, Fetters and Beth Clark set a new 4 x 800 relay mark.  Hite ran for Weaver in the state meet due to an injury and the team lowered the record even more.
This squad represents one of only 3 Everett athletic squads to finish undefeated during their regular season and is the only squad in school history to go undefeated and win a District 5 Championship.
“This was a very balanced squad that really had no weak events.  It was a very strong and well-rounded group of young ladies who
I don’t think really knew or understood at the time, how talented they were,” according to Head Coach Jeff Batzel.
