Melissa Raab Baker
Class of 2016
Missy (Raab) Baker is a 1985 graduate of Bedford High School where she was a BCL All-Star in volleyball, basketball, and softball. She was a three-time member of the BCL All-Star Basketball team and the first Bedford athlete to amass 1,000 points.
Raab helped lead the Lady Bisons to a 22-3 mark and a District 5-AAA title her senior year. Bedford was knocked out of the PIAA playoffs that year by Bishop Guilfoyle, the defending state champion. She helped Bedford to Bedford County League crowns in her junior and senior years as well.
Her inside game carried her to success on the court in college as well.
As a freshman at Mount Aloysius, she was the co-MVP. She was seventh in the region in rebounding (11.8 per game), fourth in field goal percentage (.519), and 14th in scoring (13.3).
As a sophomore, she was named to the NJCAA All-Region XX Team, and selected to play in the Region XX All-Star game. She finished as the school’s fourth all-team leading scorer (538) and third all-team leading rebounder (431). She held the single season record at Mount Aloysius for field goal percentage (.519) and career field goal percentage (.500).
In her first year at St. Francis, she average 13.6 points (10th in the conference) and 8.0 rebounds (9th in the conference) per game. She was named to the Iona College All-tournament Team, and she earned ECAC Metro Conference Newcomer of the Week five times. She was also named to the 1987-88 ECAC Metro All-Newcomer Team.
Her senior year, she had a career high 34 points against Long Island. She averaged 16.1 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 48.8% from the floor and 70% from the free throw line. For her efforts, she was named to the Northeast Conference (NEC) All-Conference first team, and she was awarded the 1989 Wallace Athletic Award, given to the top senior female student-athlete at St. Francis that year.
Missy is a third grade teacher at Saint Leo the Great Catholic School in Fairfax, Virginia. She and her husband Larry have two children, Shelby and Lawrence.
