Dave Musselman
Class of 2014
Dave graduated from Claysburg High School in 1965 and joined the Navy in the fall. He served in the Navy until September, 1969. During this time he was active in sports. Dave moved to New Paris in September, 1969 and took his official tests for basketball and baseball. He umpired high school baseball and basketball from 1970 until 1992.

Dave got started officiating wrestling in 1982 and continued until 2010. During this time he refereed 20 District 5 wrestling tournaments, 19 Southwest Regional Tournaments and 9 PIAA State Wrestling Tournaments. He did one state dual meet tournament, including the AAA Finals. He also refereed many wrestling tournaments, including the Bedford
Thomas, Tyrone, Richland and others. Dave did the Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling States seven times. He became one of the best and well-known PIAA wrestling officials locally and at the state level.

Dave also was involved in other endeavors that deserved mentioning beside PIAA officiating. He umpired many fast-pitch games in the Independent Softball League (ISL) and Schellsburg Softball League (SSL) games from 1969-2010. During this time he was president of the ISL for 20 years.

Dave umpired numerous little league, one-pitch, slow-pitch, and other softball and baseball games in the county for over 40 years. He would have umpired and refereed many more events, but an injury in 2010 ended his career.

He helped organize the Schellsburg One-pitch Softball League. He also helped organize and served as president of the Chestnut Ridge Ball Leagues for boys Little League baseball and girls ponytail softball for over 30 years.

Dave stated, "I have a true love for sports and have enjoyed a lifetime of playing, coaching, umpiring,
refereeing, and being a part of so many people's lives. I would like to thank my family and friends for all their support through all this."

Dave is a barber in Bedford and keeps up-to-date on Bedford County sports. Dave enjoys spending time with his family - wife Denise, 2 sons, 3 daughters, 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
