Larry Evans is a 1961 graduate of Tussey Mountain High School. Larry was a three-sport star for the Titans, playing basketball, football, and baseball. He was the school’s first three-sport letterman at the new Tussey Mountain High School as a senior.

Basketball was the sport that carried Larry far and onto an excellent college career at Elizabethtown College. Over his career at Tussey Mountain and Saxton Liberty High Schools, Larry scored a total of 825 points and 882 rebounds. In a 60-game high school career, he averaged a double-double with 13.6 points and 14.7 rebounds per game.

He was an integral part of the Titans’ undefeated 20-0 regular season in 1961. That team averaged close to 80 points per game and held the opposing teams to 50 points per game. Larry was a starter on three Bedford County League championship teams. He was named to the first team of both the Bedford County League and Huntingdon Daily News All-Star Teams for both his junior and senior years. He was also an All-State Honorable Mention his senior year.

After graduating from Tussey Mountain in 1961, he was honored along with teammates Larry Wyles and Larry Hollingshead, with scholarships to Elizabethtown College.
Larry played all four years at Elizabethtown College, a Division II school that was in the Middle Atlantic Conference.

During his four years, the Blue Jays won 78 percent of their games. In the 1964-65 season, he was co-captain and was a MAC All-Star Honorable Mention. That team went 19-1, the best record ever at Elizabethtown College.

Larry started on the first Elizabethtown College team to win a MAC championship and play in the NCAA Regional Final in the 1963-64 season. He was named to the All-Regional Tournament First-Team that year.

Larry scored 1,196 points over his career, which ranks 20th all-time in Elizabethtown history, while his 993 rebounds are still second on the Blue Jays’ career chart. His single-game highs at Elizabethtown were 32 points and 31 rebounds, both during the 1963-64 season.

In 1983, Larry was elected into the Elizabethtown College Hall of Fame.

Upon his completion of his degree in Business Education in 1965, he married his college sweetheart, the former Carolyn Gingrich. They are proud parents of three daughters and two grandsons.

Larry retired in 2004 after 31 years in a career with CCH, Inc. and BNA, Inc. Both companies are publishers in the business and tax fields. During this time, he was a Divisional Sales Manager and Second Vice President of Sales in Pittsburgh and Miami areas for 13 years.

Larry has lived in the Charlotte, North Carolina area for the last 15 years, and despite being retired, he worked part-time for the Charlotte area YMCA and as a Floor Traffic Coordinator for Hendrick BMW.

Now fully retired, he enjoys working out at the local YMCA, reading mystery novels, collecting coins, and doing family history and genealogy. However, he mostly enjoys spending time with his family.

For Larry and his family, they are blessed with good health and “Life is Good”.
