Lexie Chamberlain Reish
Class of 2014
The Bedford County area has been fortunate to produce many great high school softball pitchers.
One of the first to take that high school success and carry it through to the collegiate level is 2014 Bedford County Sports Hall of Fame inductee Lexie Chamberlain Reish.
The 1986 Bedford High School graduate had a great high school career as a basketball and softball player. She went to St. Francis in Loretto and became a Hall of Fame player with the Red Flash.
Chamberlain is best known for her softball exploits, but she was also a very successful basketball player for the Lady Bisons. She was a three-year letterwinner and a two-year starter. She was also a two-year Bedford County League All-Star, and Bedford was the District 5-AAA champions in 1985.
As a softball player, she dominated in helping the Lady Bisons to four District 5-AAA titles and Bedford County League titles in 1983 and 1985. She was also a member of the Bedford County League All-Star team all four years.
She even excelled at slow-pitch as she was the starting third baseman for the ASA Class C State Champions, K’s Vending, in 1984, and a left-centerfielder for Lower’s Pharmacy, the ASA Class C State Champions, in 1989.
Chamberlain earned an athletic scholarship to play softball at St. Francis and helped build the program.
According to the St. Francis Hall of Fame plaque:
“When Lexie Chamberlain Reish arrived at Saint Francis, the school's softball program was in its infancy. Ms. Chamberlain single-handedly accelerated the maturation process.”
After winning six games in 1986 and eight during Ms. Chamberlain's freshman season in 1987, the Red Flash program came of age in 1988. Ms. Chamberlain led the program to 19 victories that year, establishing single-season school records in batting average (.434), hits (50) and runs scored (40). Two of those single-season marks (batting average and runs scored) still stand.
In 1989, as a junior, Ms. Chamberlain directed the Red Flash to an 18-9 record, doing most of her damage from her pitcher's position. The hard-throwing right-hander established single-season school records for victories (17), innings pitched (173), and earned run average (2.18), pitching Saint Francis to 17 of its 18 wins.
Chamberlain earned some league honors as well, including a first-team selection on the North East Conference All-Tournament Team in 1990.

She still has her name in the St. Francis softball record book in several categories including:
Single Season Batting Average, .434 (1988) - 1st
Single Season Runs Scored, 40 (1988) - 2nd
Single Season Wins, 17 (1989) - 2nd Tied
Single Season Innings Pitched, 194 (1990) - 4th
Single Season ERA, 2.18 (1989) - 2.18
Single Season Appearances, 32 (1990) - 32
Career Batting Average, .337 - 4th
Career Wins, 43 - 3rd
Career Innings Pitched, 539, 4th
Career Strikeouts, 348, 4th

She also was a member the bronze-medal winning team at the 1988 Keystone State Games as a centerfielder.
Chamberlain Reish currently resides with her family in the Mifflinburg area. Her husband is a retired warden from the Bureau of Prisons. They have three children: Megan (20), a current member of the Susquehanna University Field Hockey team; Ian (15), a high school tennis player; and Cole (13), who plays lacrosse.
Her hobbies these days consist of working out, playing tennis and racquetball at Bucknell University, where her husband and several generations of his family graduated.
