Chestnut Ridge Girls Track and Field Team
The 1996 Chestnut Ridge girls’ track and field team was one of the most successful in school history.
The team went 12-0 in dual meets with the closest match coming against McConnellsburg in a 74-67 victory.
The Lady Lions not only had an undefeated dual season, but they also cruised the Bedford County Meet championship and the District 5 championship. They won the Bedford County Meet by 68.5 points, while they edged McConnellsburg by 16 points for the district title.
The champions in the Bedford County Meet were Beth Burkett (javelin and long jump), Ashley Finnegan (400), Becky Pittman (3200), 400 relay, 1600 relay, and 3200 relay.
The Lady Lions also won the District 5 titles with Finnegan (400), Julie Ickes (long jump), Burkett (javelin), 400 relay, and 1600 relay.
The success carried over to states with Bedford County Sports Hall of Fame member Beth Burkett, who placed second at the PIAA meet.
Both head coach Fran Harlan and Burkett are individual members of the Bedford County Sports Hall of Fame.
