1967 Claysburg-Kimmel Baseball Team
The 1967 Claysburg-Kimmel varsity baseball team coached by Ted Delozier had high hopes for the 1967 season. Led by a senior class; Bob Ebersole, Walt Musselman, Don Staub, Scott Dively, Roy McCarty and Rob Eicher, along with junior ace hurler Terry Lingenfelter and a good core of underclassmen.
Claysburg-Kimmel started the season with a 3-2 loss to Hollidaysburg. After that loss Claysburg-Kimmel reeled off 9 straight wins to finish the regular season with a 9-1 record and a Blair County Championship.
The team set its sights on a bigger goal in the District VI Championship. In the semi-finals of the District VI playoffs Claysburg-Kimmel defeated Lewistown 2-1. Walt Musselman scored the first run on Bob Ebersole’s triple. In the fifth inning Musselman drove in Don Staub for the second and winning run, to advance to the District VI Championship for the first time in school history.
In the championship game against Clearfield, Lingenfelter scattered 6 hits and struck out 8 for the complete game victory. Lingenfelter helped his own cause with three hits, including two doubles and driving in two runs.
The win was his eighth win of the season with a score of 5-3. In the fifth inning centerfielder Bill Ritchey threw a Clearfield runner out at home plate to stop the rally. Claysburg-Kimmel ended the season 11-1 and with the school’s first District VI Championship in school history.
