Sam Carroll
Sam Carroll graduated from Everett in 1999, where he competed in football, wrestling, and baseball. He then went onto Clarion University to further his wrestling career and earn a degree in education only to return to Bedford County to teach and coach at Bedford High School. Sam excelled in all three and has had an outstanding coaching career at Bedford.
In football, Sam was a 3-year letter winner and a 3-time Bedford County All-Star. He was team captain his senior year and was an ICC All-Star his junior and senior years. He had 29 career touchdowns by way of 13 rushing, 13 receiving, 2 special teams, and 1 interception return. Sam also capped his career off with 10 interceptions as a defensive back.
Wrestling is where Sam won most of his accolades. He was a 4-time Tri-County finalist, 4-time District 5 finalist, and 4-time CBS all-star. Sam was a 3-year captain and set the school record with 86 takedowns his senior year. He was all-state his junior and senior seasons and placed 8th his senior year. Sam finished his career with 106 career wins. Sam was elected as a “Cream of Crop” Altoona Mirror all-star and wrestled in the Challenge of Champions.
Sam continued his wrestling career at Clarion University. He did not redshirt as he won the backup spot at 141 and 149. In late January of his freshman year, Sam was sidelined with post-concussion syndrome from 5 prior concussions, which ended his wrestling career.
Sam had much success on the diamond as a senior in high school. He had a 35-game hit streak where he hit safely in every regular season and American Legion season game. During that streak, Sam went 71 for 147 batting a .483 average. Sam also was third on Everett’s single season hit list with 37 hits that year as well. Sam was a 2-time Bedford County and ICC all-star as well.
Upon college graduation, Sam got hired at Bedford High School and jumped right into coaching varsity football and wrestling as an assistant coach. Sam has coached football for 19 years coaching 14 all-state players. Also, the 2004, 2015, and 2020 undefeated seasons were with Sam on staff.
As a wrestling coach, Sam has coached 13 varsity seasons and 8 seasons where he volunteered at all levels. As a varsity coach of 13 seasons, Sam coached 33 district champs, 32 state qualifiers, 14 state medalists, 3 finalists, and 1 champion including (8) 100-match winners during that time.
Sam continues to teach secondary mathematics at Bedford High School and volunteers as a wrestling coach.
