Erin (Johnson) Kelly
Erin Johnson Kelly is a 1999 graduate of Claysburg-Kimmel High School. Erin played basketball for the Lady Bulldogs from 1995-1999 and helped lead the team to several winning seasons in the Juniata Valley League.
She was a very unforgettable player for strong basketball skills and leadership, while doing so being born without a left forearm.
The Lady Bulldog scored 1,000 points in her scholastic career and held the record for the most career three-pointers (194) at CK when she graduated.
She was the 3-time Juniata Valley League All-Star, and she was Claysburg-Kimmel’s Outstanding senior athlete for 1998-99.
She was featured in the March 1999 edition of Sports Illustrated Faces in the Crowd and earned an Arete Award for Courage in Sports in October 1999.
Erin went on to play basketball at Penn State Altoona from 1999-2002. She was named the 2001-2002 Female Student-Athlete of the Year with a 3.92 GPA.
Along the way, she earned the 1999 Blair County Sports Hall of Fame Inspiration Award, as well as the 1999 YMCA/Tribune Review Scholar Athlete Banquet: Frank B. Fuhrer Family - Outstanding Performance Award.
Recently, the Altoona Mirror has named a local award after her with the Erin (Johnson) Kelly Award, which recognizes the area high school senior athlete who has overcome the most adversity.
