LaSalle Racing

The LaSalle family from Everett and Breezewood has been a part of the Bedford County racing scene since the inception of local
stock car racing here in 1955.
The patriarch of this family, Charlie LaSalle, started this family tradition as a member of various pit crews at the former South Penn and Saxton speedways during the 1950s. He later decided to give driving a try with the newly formed "Cadet" division in the early 1960s at South Penn. Being a strong personality and speaker, his driving days were short lived as he was tapped by the Hobby Auto Racing Association to become an official with the organization. He remained in that capacity, serving in several different roles through the late 1960s.
Charlie's involvement in racing captivated his young sons, Chuck and Dion, and soon both would have interest in starting their own team. By the mid-1970s Chuck and Dion had spent time with two Bedford County Sports Hall of Fame members: driver Gerald Chamberlain and mechanic Gus Frear. With their C & F Racing Team, Frear and Chamberlain helped the brothers gain the mechanical knowledge needed to become drivers themselves. Chuck (in 1978) and Dion (in 1980) made their first starts behind the wheel with the family-owned race cars. Overseeing the operation was Charlie, who was eager to be back working and pit crewing race cars again.
The LaSalle brothers became top runners in the former Strictly Stock and Street Stock divisions of the early 1980s at Bedford, Jennerstown, and Cumberland speedways. Their well-prepared Chevrolet racers, numbered 37 and 38 respectively, made many Victory Lane appearances during this period. Their success found them advancing into the Semi-Late, Modified, and Late Model divisions for the next 20 years and into the new century.
The LaSalle brothers also found success the track as they each built their own separate businesses. Chuck has LaSalle Engine and Chassis, while Dion has LaSalle's Garage and Towing. As their families grew, the third generation of LaSalle drivers caught the racing bug as well, just as their fathers and grandfather they did.
The LaSalle family name is still represented today in local racing with Brandon and Nate. Brandon is Chuck's son, while Nate is the son of Dion. As both sons work at each of their fathers' businesses, they receive the strong work ethic needed to be first successful in life as well as racing.
A fourth generation of the LaSalle family drivers started his career in 2017. Lukas LaSalle began his rookie year of racing in the United States Auto Club (USAC) quarter midget division at the Hagerstown Quarter Midget Club track, located next to the Hagerstown Speedway.
As the long list of feature wins and track championships continue to grow, Charlie LaSalle, the patriarch who started of it all in 1955, is still there, overseeing and guiding the fourth generation of LaSalle race car drivers for 2017
εand beyond.
