Tussey Mountain Boys BB 1960-1961

The 1960-61 Tussey Mountain boys basketball team finished its season with an outstanding record of 20-1. The only blemish on the record was a 74-62 loss to Stonycreek in the District 5 Class B Championship.
Since the 1960 season, no Bedford County boys basketball team has finished the regular season undefeated. The Titans scored 1,582 points in the regular season, resulting in a 79.6 points per game average, while shooting 48 percent from the field. The points per game average was one of the highest in the state of Pennsylvania that year, while holding opponents to only 50.3 points per game.
Tussey Mountain was ranked fifth in Central Pennsylvania behind much larger schools such as Altoona and Johnstown.
The Titans were coached by Max Shoenfelt, while the assistant coaches were Dan Brumbaugh and Glenn Black.
Here is a look at the starting five on that team:
Larry Wyles (forward) - Wyles averaged 25 points per game, which is still a school record at Tussey Mountain. He scored 500 points in the season and 1,258 career points to become the first Titan to hit 1,000 career points. He averaged 12.8 rebounds per game for a total of 258. He was first team on the Bedford County and the Huntingdon County All-Star teams. He was named the MVP of the Central Pennsylvania All-Star Team. He was the deadliest shooter in the area and accepted a scholarship to play basketball at Elizabethtown College.
Larry Evans (center) - Evans scored 382 points in 1961 to average 18.2 points per game. He grabbed 345 rebounds to average 17.2 rebounds per game. He was first team on the Bedford County and the Huntingdon County All-Star teams. He was named to the all-state team, and the most outstanding rebounder in Central Pennsylvania. He accepted a scholarship to play basketball at Elizabethtown College.
Larry Hollingshead (guard) - Hollingshead averaged 13.2 points per game for a total of 273 points. He was second team on the Bedford County and the Huntingdon County All-Star teams. He had 160 rebounds in 1961. He was the jump center and had excellent ball-handling skills to bring the ball up the court. He accepted a scholarship to play basketball at Elizabethtown College.
Ron Weimert (guard) - The senior was an outstanding point guard who averaged 9.7 points per game. He was an honorable mention on the Bedford County and the Huntingdon County All-Star teams.
Dan Brumbaugh - The only non-senior on the starting team, he averaged 2.3 points per game. The 6-3 junior was a very good defender and good rebounder.
Other team members were: Barry Brown, Ronnie Swope, Tim Moore, Don Donaldson, and Clay Donaldson. The managers on the team were Jack Decker, Terry Brode, Gary Sacratini, and Sam Cessna.
